Lake Taupo Olives was established in 1991 by the Shirer Family. It is currently owned and run by Will Shirer who resides on the property. The grove consists of approximately 1000 trees and includes the following varieties:

  • Baenea; a large upright tree with pointed fruit originating from Israel
  • Picholene; a French variety
  • Manzanillo; a Spanish variety named after the appearance of the fruit
  • Leccino; a popular Italian variety
  • Frantoio; is known as the queen of olives and is a high yielding vatiety,

The 6 hectare property is situated on the banks of the picturesque Kuratau River. It has a northerly aspect, and the olives thrive on the pumice soils

Lake Taupo Olives is committed to a sustainable/organic production philosophy. In line with this philosophy, 90% of the power usage on the property is generated onsite using solar energy.
